Great, Aside from Added Prologue

This is a top-notch gangster flick! Cagney is great as always, and I thought it was really cool to see him work with Robert Armstrong of "King Kong" fame.

However, it was aired with a prologue that must've been added in 1949 for the FBI's anniversary, which wasn't needed.

Yeah, so lame that prologue.

The film would have been fine without the prologue but it was to add emphasis to its message that the G - Men were the good guys, since this film was used in an attempt to stop the glorification of Gangsters in movies during the period when 'G' - Men was released.

I just saw the film on TCM and the Prologue actually confused me.

I thought: How could they be talking about 1949 when this movie was made in 1935?

Best to cut it off the film.

prologue was completely stupid. at first i thought they were showing the wrong movie.

I agree, it wasn't needed (didn't mind it myself, to be honest). But this is a very good film regardless.

Warners added the prologue to make J. Edgar Hoover happy. When the movie first came out, the FBI wasn't happy because Brick didn't always follow the rules, but after a while, they realized that Cagney was so charismatic in any part he played, that it gave the FBI a boost to have him play one of them (even if he didn't follow the rules) and then embraced the film. The prologue was added when the movie was re-released for the FBI anniversary.

This positively infantile preoccupation with bosoms!Terry-Thomas about US 1963.Hasnt changed much!
