What do you think of 'Doubting Thomas' (1935)?
Fans of Waiting for Guffman might enjoy this patchy but mainly hilarious look at small-town amateur theatricals and the untalented people who delude themselves into thinking they're heading for fame. Will Rogers plays a man who runs a sausage company and has nothing but put-downs for the whole group. Billie Burke is a riot as his wife, a wanna-be actress who does a bad imitation of Mae West. Alison Skipworth is just as funny as the imperious old director. One significant debit: Frances Grant as a would-be ingénue is nearly as bad as the character she plays.
