The two Dora: film vs. novel

I saw this film prior to reading the novel, which I am now about 75% finished. I generally don't like to do that as the actors' portrayals can influence how I perceive a character in the original novel. I must say I found O'Sullivan's Dora in the film to be quite annoying. In the novel, having already known her from the film, I did expect her to be annoying and she rather was at first. But over time, I have come to love her much more than I ever expected, and to truly feel happy for David. In the film I felt sorry for him that he had made a poor choice. And since I already know what happens to Dora, I think her fate will hit me much harder than it did in the film.

Just my thoughts. I am quite enjoying the novel, but it IS very long and doesn't pack the same dramatic punch as "Great Expectations."
