Peter Lorre
It seemed to me like Peter Lorre over did it a lille. Especially the scene when he came into Arnold's office and put his foot one the chair. No one would have done that and certainly nor to a police inspector.

shareI felt it was a display of his newfound bravado as well as his comfort in the presence of the police inspector who had already declared himself Raskolnikov's friend. At that point in the story, he had no reason to believe that the inspector considered him a suspect. Besides that, if the director had thought such a gesture was out of place for the protagonist, I'm sure he would have changed the scene.
