i know this is an old post, but check out "fear" (1946) definately a remake. theres others but i cant recall titles. maybe someone else can post some remakes or "inspired by" titles.

Check out the tv version with Patrick Dempsey. It would watch about like what you'd expect from Depp.

I'm watching the Peter Lorre '35 version now. Not a hint of what Depp could do here.

Tho I rather suspect after Tonto, Depp won't be handed anything like this anytime soon.

Johnny Depp's too busy playing "flamboyant" pirates. Besides that, he doesn't have the gravitas as an actor to pull off the role of Raskolnikov. Dostoyevsky's too good for him.
