oops!?

Did anyone else notice a dress malfunction in the scene "In With Jamesy or Else" ?

reply

Yes, about 50 minutes into the film.

Jean's right boob falls out of her dress when Wallace Beery pushes her.

Nice recovery.

reply

Sorry I missed that interesting development.

Good movie, I couldn't believe at the end when Gable's character turned China Doll over to the police. He could have easily overlooked her misgiving.

Perhaps if the malfunction happened in front of him instead of Beery, he would've. xD

Just saw this movie for the first time and noticed Harlow's dress malfunction. Luckily my DVD player has slow motion and zoom. Jean Harlow was one hot woman, and not a bad actress.

"Push the button, Max!"

reply

Yes, it's at the 48:10 mark in the film, when Wallace Beery pushes Harlow against the bureau. Funny that this got past the censors. (And notice the surprised twinkle in Beery's eyes!)

reply

I remember the first time I saw that I could not believe it. I wonder if Jean noticed?

The way she covered up again so quickly suggests she did

reply

Absolutely!! with a dvd player on slow motion you can see the front of Jean's dress fall off when she is pushed against the dresser. Back then they liked to sneak things past the censors for kicks!!

reply

It was so obvious to me! I really can't believe that it got past the censors!

Exactly what I was thinking!!! Poor Russell was dissected to the bone for her cleavage in The Outlaw, but this went right past Breen and his stooges! Perhaps, they let it slip by on purpose? No way, they could've missed it... Those repressed Catholics, lol!

reply

Yes, what a scene with Jamesey.

One note. It was Jane Russell and her giant cleavage in The Outlaw.

This is Rosalind Russell. Not only a beauty but a great comic/dramadic actor.

Yes... And? What's your point?

reply

Holy mackerel! The first time I saw this film I completely missed this, the second time as well, but tonight on TCM I looked for it and, if you pause the movie just right, her entire right breast is exposed, albeit fleetingly. Incredible, but it's easy to see how a censor could have missed it, as quickly as it happens and if you don't know to look for it. An aspect of Jean Harlow not many people have seen!

reply

See it anytime on Google, but missed it completely when I saw it first. You all have sharp eyes, but she sure looked hot in that outfit and in 1935 she must have looked incredible. No wonder they talk about her so much. What a shame she left us so early.

You can say that again. I feel like I miss her even though I never actually knew her, of course...

A couple lines from her IMDB bio:

Never wore any underwear and always slept in the nude.

She used to put ice on her nipples right before shooting a scene in order to appear sexier.

reply

Just saw it on the TCM App can't believe it got thru the censors!

It also happened in Grand Hotel (1932) the scene where Greta Garbo's character is changing out of her lingerie while lying in bed
