Apache

The French word "apache" is based on the Native American people, the Apaches. It was originally meant to describe violent street people based on the belief that the Apaches were a ferocious people. In the early 20th century, a couple of dancers went to various bars frequented by the "apaches" in Paris and created a violent dance based on the behavior of these people - possibly an argument between a pimp and a prostitute is the basis of the dance style.
