History made-- TCM ran a Charlie Chan movie on 9.30.12

Wow. Charlie Chan is so politically incorrect, since he's a good-two shoes stereotype, which is just so wrong. So Charlie has pretty much been banned from the TV for nearly 40 years. But somehow, TCM ran this movie last night. How can that be?

Other than the character played by Stepin Fetchit, I don't see a problem. Charlie Chan is the smartest character on the screen and has great dignity. It's hardly been banned....I've seen lots and lots of Charlie Chan movies in the last 40 years. Have you ever seen one?????

It was actually broadcast as part of TCM's Egypt-themed night.

Also, the movies weren't banned from TV for 40 years. AMC - pre-TCM days and pre-commercial years - used to have Charlie Chan marathons several times a year. Robert Dorian and/or Nick Clooney would introduce the film and provide trivia about them. That is how most Chan fans got their Chan collections - taping them commercial free off AMC. In addition, many local channels showed Chan movies. That was all pre-DVD days.

Just like most people who get outraged over "political correctness" because popular entertainment isn't racist enough for them, you are full of crap.

If Charlie Chan movies haven't been shown as often as they used to, it's because they're old, not because they've been banned.
