Perry Mason vs The Thin Man

Watching the Warner Brothers' Perry Mason movies of the 1930's, I cannot help but wonder if they weren't suppose to rival The Thin Man movies which were distributed by MGM. Perhaps that is why Perry Mason marries Della Street in The Case of the Velvet Claws , so that they could become a sleuthing couple like Nora & Nick Charles in The Thin Man series. Only it didn't work as well with Perry & Della as a married couple as it did with them as the sleuthing boss & loyal secretary - hence the return to their original relationship in the previous movies, not to mention in the books. It would also explain the 'misguided' (IMO) humor in these movies, which in my opinion, worked better in The Thin Man series.

The first of both series was released in the same year (1934); but as several of the sequels to the first Thin Man movie were filmed/released after several of the Perry Mason movies, I'm not sure about this theory:

The Perry Mason movies:
The Case of the Howling Dog (1934),
The Case of the Curious Bride (1935),
The Case of the Lucky Legs (1935),
The Case of the Velvet Claws (1936),
The Case of the Black Cat (1936),
The Case of the Stuttering Bishop (1937)

The Thin Man movies:
The Thin Man (1934)
After the Thin Man (1936)
Another Thin Man (1939)
Shadow of the Thin Man (1941)
The Thin Man Goes Home (1945)
Song of the Thin Man (1947)

I do still enjoy watching each of these classic Perry Mason movies. And I also love The Thin Man series - primarily because of the chemistry between Myrna Loy & William Powell, both of whom were better at doing comedy than any of the actors/actresses who played either Perry Mason or Della Street. Of course, this is my opinion.
