Savy a remake?

Okay guys, I know there is a lot of hype right now about pirates, thanks to Pirates of the Carribean. Personally, I think this is one of the best pirate movies ever made and because pirate movies are so popular, I would love to see another made, besides POTC. So if they did a remake, who would you want to see star in the film?

These are a few I thought of, but the possibilities are endless:

Captain Peter Blood: Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, or Eric Bana

Arabella Bishop: Natalie Portman, Sienna Miller, Scarlett Johannson

Colonel Bishop: Brendan Gleeson, Alan Rickman, Robbie Coltrane

Captain Lavasseur: Vincent Cassel, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody

Jeremy Pitt: Garrett Hedlund (He's the only person I could think of)

Lord Willoughby: Ian McKellan, Sean Connery

those seem like pretty good choices to me. but personally, i would go for a new person, someone the public hasn't seen hundreds of times. after all, errol flynn was new to american movies. i dont know, i guess i just dont want this to be remade. and with pirates of the caribbean, people might already have a certain pirate look in their heads. some movies should be left alone. you're right, this is one of the best pirate movies ever made.

There's no way a remade Captain Blood could measure up to the original film.

What's I'd prefer to see is a truly GOOD remake of Treasure Island.

reply

I hope Captain Blood is never remade, because Captain Blood is a classic, and I fear it would be butchered. Errol Flynn truly aquired the essence of Captain Blood and the thought of any other actor trying to fill his boots is inconcievable! I also believe that classics need not be remade. They were original and set the course for all movies to come. Also, if production companies are becoming so desperate for new films they need to consider new, talented writers other than simply picking up a classic movie, dust it off, and freshen it up with new actors and new script. I say leave Captian Blood alone as well as every other classic movie out there.

I personally would love to see a remake of this. After having just read the book I think Hugh Jackman would be an EXCELLENT choice to play Peter Blood and Scarlett Johannson a fabulous Arabella Bishop.

reply

ONLY if they don't muck it up with ridiculous CGI or slapstick & potty humour.

reply

Heaven forbid! I have never been able to see why, rather than creating their own masterpieces, some people insist on messing with perfection.
What's next, remaking a safer, white-bread-and-American-cheese version of NYC or Venice in Las Vegas?

reply

What are you going to say next? They should remake Citizen Kane or Casablanca or Seven Samurai? No we do not need a Captain Blood remake!

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

reply

If they try to do a remake they'll just end up messing up a classic. We don't want that now do we.

"Elizabeth"
Jack turns around to Gibbs.
"Hide the Rum".

actually, there was a sorta remake of seven samurai, (the magnificent seven) which was an adaption but not a true remake. and i think there were a couple more movies similar.

Na. The book says that Arabella has a unique boyish quality about her. Sienna and Scarlett are not boyish enough. Natalie might be good; if it weren't for Keira Knightley already playing Elizabeth, I would choose her. She's gorgeous but can look boyish, too. ANd I think Alan Rickman would make a cool Peter Blood. Hahaa.. although Hugh Jackman would be cool, too. I haven't seen the original Cpt Blood, yet... can't find it.

i own it and its awesome. you could try amazon. or ebay. you could also try borders if one is near you. that's where i got mine from.

Well....Olivia de Havilland wasn't either, but that didn't much matter.

No remakes.

I think it should be done with the same dialogue, same action, same sets but switch the genders of the two main characters. Think about it..

Tony (Baldric) Robinson is the only choice for Honesty Nutall.
I can also see Peter Cook in the gouty governer's role.
