'What I did to you...?' - Spoiler Alert

I'm aware there are a lot of relationships like the one portrayed in this movie but I don't get it. Constance knew before she married him that Franz was in the habit of getting involved with a lot of women. He told her that love didn't last and basically admitted he would continue the same behavior in the future.

When she married him I assumed, as he probably did as well, that she accepted him as he was. I'm not surprised she was upset he had started up again but I hadn't expected her to react the way she did. She left him immediately then was quick to want him back. He's the one who moved on and said he had his pride. They had the exact opposite attitude as they should have had.

Later she said she hated, 'what she did to him.' Of all the nonsense! If it's true she decided to take on a few lovers it was after they separated. They were still married so I'm not condoning it but it seemed strange she would blame herself for his inability to take what he could so easily dish out. She also blamed herself when he threw away his career. People may say it was a sign of the times but I think that still happens a lot today.

The movie was okay but I hated the way it ended. I know she wasn't in love with Johnny so it's good she didn't marry him but he was right. She should have heeded his warning: she was letting herself in for more of the same from Franz. In fact, I had a hard time believing he'd even take her back. He could have all the 'friends' he wanted but when she did the same he broke down, humiliated her in public, threw an adult tantrum, started drinking, and nearly ruined his career.

He did realize he had blown it with the only woman that ever mattered to him but he knew that going in yet it didn't stop him from sneaking around. Someone that arrogant would probably never let go of her having been with other men.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
