That Marching Scene


Stan Laurel was expert at always attempting to get "in step" with his fellow marchers.

But, Stan's brilliance at getting each marcher - starting with the lad next to Stan - to actually adopt Stan's step as the correct one was an example of Hollywood magic at its best.

Starting with Stan at far right in the first rank and working leftward and then rearward down the column took precise direction, acting, camera work, and editing. I think it must have taken at least one day's work to get that "simple short marching scene" perfect.
