Coal mining industry hated this and compelled script changes

The National Coal Association had access to the script and complained. As a result Breen made the studio insert some lines indicating that "conditions of the coal industry have vastly improved and are getting better all the time."

The script was changed to shift the blame for labor unrest from mine operators to union radicals.

Breen himself wrote: "The point here is to get in a line or two that may establish the fact that the miners have little to complain against."

And today everyone knows the truth about coal mining and how humanitarian the industry actually is.

The sense itself was I.
