help with music please! thank you!

Does anyone know if the soundtrack is available for purchase?

and it's been bothering me for a long time...
does anyone know the title of:
1. the song the officers are singing at the start of the movie (it's russian i think...)

2. the music used for the Mazurka

reply

Sorry, I don't know the titles of any of the folk songs, but

1) the Mazurka is from the opera "A Life for the Tsar", by Glinka.

2) the opera sequence is from Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin", the chorus and dance of peasants, Act I. However, the sequence begins with the dance "Schottische" from Act III, with lyrics added ( by MGM, not in the real opera)

In addition, both scenes with Garbo in Freddie Bartholamew's bedroom feature Tchaikovsky's song " None but the Lonely Heart" in the background.

Hope this helps.
