Alice's Dad is Super!

I love Alice's dad! He is so down-to-earth, and you can just tell how much he loves his family. I always wondered what his ailment was.

I also love it when he calls Walter (his son) a "danged little idiot!"

I agree with you. I just bought this movie because I love it so much! The father's (Fred Stone) performance is great! He and Katherine Hepburn make the movie. The scene at the end where he is crying while arguing with Mr. Lamb is heart-wrenching! It breaks my heart! It's too bad that Fred MacMurray's characted wasn't better developed, he was a such a great actor-- just watch Double Indemnity and The Apartment.

I also love it when he scowls at his wife! Heehee! So funny!

I'm glad to discover here at IMDB that there are others who find Fred Stone's performance in this film as moving as I do. If you have time, check my "User Review" at the bottom of "Alice Adams" main page. Also, it sounds like there's been a 2002 biography of Mr Stone released.

Fred Stone was a veteran stage actor who teamed with David E. Montgomery.
One of his early roles was as the Scarecrow in the 1903 production of THE WIZARD OF OZ.
