The Graduation scene

Did students showcase their talents at commencement ceremonies in RL during that era? Maybe someone recalls their elders mentioning it. The prom scene at the beginning of the film was cute. Overall the film was a cute vintage peek at a bygone time.

At the turn of the century, they used to do tableaux. Either make up a scene like a painting,mor sing or act. In the book The House of Mirth, and I've seen it in period movies.
