GREAT FILM!

No matter what others are saying, this film is pretty good. The war scenes are great and while it might take a tiny bit of effort in the beginning to get into this film. It is well worth it to make the journey because the world does indeed move on.

Also this movie is ONLY available in the 25 films set Ford at Fox, none of the smaller sets have this movie in it. I am glad I got this set.

God Bless John Ford.

This is a Fox Film, but surprisingly I saw it "premiere" on TCM the other day. Wish TCM would acquire the rights to other Fox films and show them.

It aired on TCM December 15th, 2011. I DVRed it. I guess I won't delete it just yet...

I also rated it very highly. A wonderful American saga that becomes international before it's done. I had always wondered why Ford was looked upon so highly as a director. This picture rather proves that point well. Really an excellent film. More of a "here's a history lesson told from the perspective of an American family of 1825 and all that happens in the ensuing century or more."
Great idea and production. WWI sequences were remarkable (I see many were borrowed from another film).

And it's got Franchot Tone in his prime.

If you expect to see a John Ford Western in this movie, you won't. Got nothing to do with that at all. But still a great film.
