Where is the rest of Ethel's performance?

Didn't it seem that a lot of Ethel Merman's performance was left on the cutting room floor? The most obvious spot was at the end when she and Leon Errol started to sing a song that was most likely called "The Animal in Me." But there was another moment on the island where it seemed like she was about to burst into a song and then there was an abrupt cut to Bing and Carole canoodling under the moon. Now, after seeing a number of Ethel Merman's film appearances, I can tell why she was never a film star... for one, she had that annoying habit of not looking a fellow actor in the eye when she was speaking to him... so I can sort of understand why some of her scenes would be trimmed...but still, it would be nice to have more filmic proof of her talents.
