Needs Laughter

I'm suspecting the reactions to Twentieth Century depend on who the viewers are and who's with them. If someone present laughs easily and heartily, then the picture's hilarious. If not, it's a screaming hamfest. In 1934, it was probably a safe bet that a contagion of laughter would sweep the theater, without the competition of television.

I saw it on my own and laughed fit to bust the whole way through. You certainly don't need other people laughing all around you to make this film funny.

So did I.

I feel very, very sorry for viewers who didn't get any laughs out of this movie - but I guess you can't please everyone. It's a matter of taste. I happen to like Mel Brooks' movies too. Perhaps that says it all - about my taste...

I saw it alone a few minutes ago. I found it funny but the humour wasn't anything more than a few chuckles scattered throughout.
