Hitler's Enemies - Churchill & Roosevelt

Winston Churchill was a racist, an imperialist and a warmonger. In other words everything that Hollywood claims to be against yet I have never seen a movie where Churchill is shown in a negative light. During the Bengal famine he refused to ship food relief because he didn't like Indians calling them a "beastly people". Millions died as a result -

Franklin Roosevelt repeatedly condemned Adolf Hitler for being a dictator yet warmly embraced Josef Stalin who was also a dictator. This was not because of the wartime situation because the first major foreign policy decision when he became president was to give official diplomatic recognition to the USSR. This was at the same time Stalin was starving millions of Ukrainians and others to death in the holodomor -

Roosevelt knew that Stalin was responsible for millions of deaths years before World War 2 even started yet he still chose to support soviet communism and give Stalin everything he wanted including Poland and eastern Europe -

Humans have a tendency to take sides, to divide the world into good and evil.
That's even more true in works of arts or in reference to history with the intention to draw a "Morale" from it.
And if we take sides, there's more than one reason to choose the allies over the axies. Reasons of ethical judgement, but also the simple fact that Hitler lost, his enemies won.
But then, I trust most grown-ups interested in history are fully aware that reality is not a fairytale, that Nazis, Communists and Democrates are not Demons and Angels, and there are no really "good" politicans whatsoever.
Churchill was the representant of colonial England (most colonies were freed only long after the end of WW2). Stalin was a murdering monster, but as Hitler attacked him first, he was an enemy of Germany and therefor a natural ally to its other enemies.
Roosevelt was only thinking about the US and their own interests. He did not care if the head of state of any other country was a dictator. He did not fight Germany to help the jews or to bring democraty. The US did only join the war after Pearl Habor and did not engage in Europe until D-Day four years later.
