What's the deal with that treble clef they use instead of "ss"?

ß would be to much like β and you can't have that for the master race can you?
But seriously, it's the other way around as ss is used instead of ß when the character is not available.

In this film you're hearing Adolf Hitler making a patriotic speech. Of course it sounds harsh. Normal spoken German is not harsh or guttural.

French, on the other hand, always sounds angry.
