Boring and Hitler never really SAYS anything.

This was a very boring documentary, with only a few interesting parts. I realized about a quarter way through it, that I had seen it before, but had not remembered much of it because it was so boring.

The only fascinating thing was that in all his speeches, Hitler never actually SAYS anything.
He just mouths platitudes and vague appeals to loyalty to himself and the Reich, and other gobbledygook. I'm amazed that nobody looked at someone and said "WTF is he babbling about?"

*(1.30 minute read)

Hitler was still considered unusual to the role of world leader according to this account:

The Roman Catholic church, as most institutions in Germany, had an ambiguous relationship with the men of the Third Reich from the very beginning. Hitler signed a concordat with the Vatican on July 20, 1933, about half a year after taking power. It was considered a most essential diplomatic breakthrough at a moment when he was still being viewed as a pariah among world statesmen. The agreement, a marriage of convenience on both sides, permitted German Catholics to practice their faith unmolested, but forbade any activities that intruded on the functions of the state. It stripped Catholic Youth organizations like the New Germany, like the one Willi Graf belonged to at the time, of the right to wear their own uniforms, plan and carry excursions out into the countryside, print or distribute their own journals, or undertake any program not directly controlled by the state or party authorities.

The church consented to the agreement in order to protect its clergy from harassment and arrest -- which in fact it was unable to do. Thousands of priests, nuns, and layworkers were arrested for acts of "immorality", or for smuggling "foreign currency", a trumped-up charge often used by the Nazis in their crazed hunt for dissidents. But the agreement with the Nazis had a more deeper, fervent motive: the official hierarchy would offer Hitler tacit support for his avowed anti-Communist policies both inside and outside of Germany (Dumbach & Newborn, P. 81).

The National Socialists did not make for smooth or initiating partners. As their power waxed at home and abroad in a crescendo of diplomatic, economic, and psychological triumph throughout the thirties, the latent contempt in the Party for religion and clerical institutions became more overt and crude. Outspoken priests were hauled off to prison, the sanctity of the confessional was violated by the Gestapo, Catholic publications were no longer merely censored but closed down, and monasteries and convents were forced to shut their gates. (P. 81-82).

I cite this to give more context on the setting, the motives of the Nazis and life in Germany at the time.

Did you know May is Jewish American Heritage month?

Thanks for sharing your insight.

You're welcome. This illustrates once again that you should never give in to, or compromise with evil. You must confront it, and defeat it. Evil only respects force. Neville Chamberlain was ignorant of this fact. Winston Churchill was not.

And no, I was not aware that May is Jewish American Heritage month. Does anything special happen?

Jewish American Heritage Month has been a thing since 2006, spearheaded by a Florida museum organization and a community. It honors and recognizes the contributions of those with Jewish background and Americans of Jewish descent.

Fairly recent. Interesting. That's a great idea with all the renewed Antisemitism today, especially from the Democrat Party. My education continues!

Something intelligent like "here are my plans for Deutschland, etc..." not meaningless platitudes, and vague appeals to nationalism and patriotic fervor.

No, I didn't miss the point of the movie, I just said it was dull. And it was.

It's one of the greatest films of all time. It also laid the groundwork for contemporary advertising.

Not really sure why you think it's "boring".. there are some truly phenomenal scenes.
