Unrealistic or unbelievable plot? Does it matter?

In a review someone said this was an unrealistic story. Obviously anyone who says that has not seen the Jerry Springer or Maury Povich shows. I don't know if these are still on today but I recall catching a few episodes years ago. Each time the same thing going on in this movie was going on with real-life people on these shows.

Ex-girlfriends, mistresses, wives and lovers battle with words and actions, sometimes even with fists, over some loser guy who doesn't seem to be worth all the effort. The same thing happens with a bunch of guys over a woman as well. I always thought it was a whole lot of nonsense but, if I'm not mistaken, these shows and others like them, were on for years and years. That means not only did they have a larege enough audience to stay on the air, producers were also able to keep finding guests with crazy stories to appear on the shows. I'm pretty sure the Dr. Phil show is still on and that deals with some of these same topics.

That said, I watched and enjoyed, This man is mine. I watch older movies for much the same reason I watch contemporary ones, for entertainment. However, there's more to it than that. With older movies, I feel I'm also getting a bit of an education about the time in which the movie was made and/or set. It's much different, more authentic, than a period movie that's made today and aims to recreate a particular time in the past.

There's always so much to see. The storyline and plot, for one, but beyond that there's clothing (styles, formality, what's worn where); hairstyles (men and women); the manner of communication and transportation; acceptable behavior; the value of money; what people do for fun and for work; how people interact especially men and women; how they view historical events (some as they're still unfolding or only recently occurred); how they view the future; etc.

Whatever the underlying story may be, whether it's implausible or strange, I still manage to get something from these movies. It's amazing how much things have changed but, suprisingly, there's a great deal of consistency over time too.
