Flawed Timeline.

Has anyone else noticed the flawed timeline in the movie?
According to everyone, Wynant has been missing for 3 months on Christmas Eve.
But in the beginning of the movie on that last day he was seen, it was snowing!
That would make it snowing on or about September 24th!

Also, on Christmas Eve itself, it stays light for a very long time. Even when the police are interviewing the suspects after Julia's murder, it's still light.

Yes! That always bugs me - the snow! I mean, global warming hasn't cooked things up that much yet! I don't think that it snowed that early in the year in New York!

But, yes, they mostly say three months, the forensics doctor, examing Wynant's body says that he's been dead for around two months, either way, there was snow in New York awfully early!

I didn't pick up on the light and time of day on Christmas Eve, when Guild was interviewing suspects. What time would that have been? They still had time to make it to Nick and Nora's Christmas party.

Come to think of it, Guild had a long day on Christmas Eve! and he was right back at it on Christmas Day!

The best I can figure out regarding the timeline on Christmas Eve
Nora must of had her six martinis at noon!

Did you notice something strange at the Christmas party?
I could be wrong but isn't that Natalie Moorehead (Julia Wolf)
Asking Nick "Who are all these wonderful people?"

What's strange about it is that she was murdered earlier that afternoon!

reply

That woman at the party doesn't look anything like Natalie Moorehead???

reply

You're absolutely right! Snowing like that in late September in New York is ridiculous.

reply

I would call it a goof rather than a plot hole or something that is so flawed it adversely affected the value of the movie.

Great film, btw. Still as funny as it gets.

Yes, but the coroner's report could be off, or there could have been some hyperbole on the part of the police to make the case seem older than it is, or maybe just a mistake. It happens in real life all the time. Another possibility is that it was a cool, early fsll, and that some snow did fall. Not a blizzard exactly, just snow. When we last saw Wynant it was late in the day, the temperature outdoors may have dropped precipitously, I love that last shot of Wynant, especiallt after repeat viewings. The light snow adds to the air of mystery, about Wynant, his fate, the case.
