William Powell carried it

In watching the Thin Man movies over the holidays, though I have seen these films many times before, one thing struck me. William Powell carried this series, and he carried it magnificently. Loy was good, but Powell was fantastic. Such an amazingly talented and skillful actor.

Bill Powell was one of the best ! I have enjoyed his films since I was a little girl. For nearly 30 years now.

He was really at his best with Loy, since they made a great team and worked off of each other so well.

But Bill was great no matter who he was partnered with on screen.

There'll never be another William Horatio Powell

It's too bad that Powell isn't as well-remembered today as he deserves to be, he was so talented! I don't know how to describe it but his performances always seemed so smart and well thought-out I guess.

I wouldn't say that he carried the movies though; I think it was that dynamite Powell/Loy combination. Although it was kind of Loy's style to defer to her co-stars a little bit I think, so he shines even more so here.

Powell is definitely one of the all time best actors. He's made every movie better, just by being in it. I've never had a complaint with him.

William Powell is one of the most fantastically underrated actors from the Golden Age of Cinema.I absolutely loved his screwball comedies,The Thin Man series and his dramatic roles later in his career. He should be among the upper pantheons of Hollywood greats, but his retirement in the 1950's could be blamed for that. Then again,he's still pretty popular considering how many of the big stars from the same era are more or less forgotten now (like Tyrone Power).

He didn't carry it.....it worked only because the two of them worked so well....

She GOT him and loved him and when she would make faces at him and walk in seeing him hugging her cousin and he walked over to her table in the restaurant with a large group of men.....they GOT each other and she was an equal in that marriage even though he was the sleuth that brought her so much pride.....great character as a wife in the 30's.....they carried it.....they were fabulous actors.....Myrna Loy is so underrated today.....they did not get better than Myrna.

Well he certainly had the talent for being one of the most annoying characters in film history. I was thinking of checking out a number called My Mang Godfrey, but since it seems this Powell fella is in that one, too, I´m sort of having second thoughts about it.

William Powell is my old Hollywood crush as a result of this film. He was handsome, stylish, and he handled the rapid-fire dialogue with panache. However, I would argue that the strength of "The Thin Man" series came as a result of the combination of the two leads. Myrna Loy is a sparkplug; beautiful and elegant but also feisty and combative. Their relationship throughout the films is one of the most fun aspects of the series. I love watching the two of them interact.

I really was one of the people who didn't know too much about William Powell until I wrote a paper on him in my film studies class in college. I was amazed by his amount of wonderful work he had done. He was in a lot of classic films. I just discovered all the films he did with Myrna Loy. I have seen 9 so far. My Man Godfrey and Life with Father is 2 more films that are worth seeing. William Powell was the epitome of Cool! He played very cool suave characters. He would had made a great Sherlock Holmes. It is very disappointing that some people don't know about him. Hollywood doesn't have actors like him anymore.
