No Idea Why I've Waited So Long to Watch It....

I recently watched Murder By Death in which David Niven and Maggie Smith spoof Nick and Nora Charles as Dick and Dora Charleston. I thought their interplay and sexiness was amusing so I wanted to see the original.

I have to say William Powell and Myrna Loy sparkle in this. Never really watched any of their other films, but the chemistry they have and the quirky dialogue just made it work. The plot is kind of convoluted and I had to read the plot summary on Wikipedia to kind of clear it up for me. But I don't think the plot is really the point. Its about two people who really love each other and it shows. The real joy is in the way Nick and Nora taunt and tease each other. Its about more than just dialogue. Its in the delivery. Powell and Loy have impeccable comic timing.

Nick's response to Nora telling him he'd been shot five times in the tabloids is just a classic line. Nora telling the wait staff to serve the nuts at the table, then correct herself to serving the nuts to the guests is pretty funny.

I look forward to watching the remaining films as well as finding other films with Powell and Loy.

My memory foam pillow says it can't remember my face. I can tell its lying.

You'll enjoy watching them all. The first is the best, but there are bright spots in all. The second film, with Jimmy Stewart, is a close second for me.
