I LOVE this...

In the scene where Nick gets shot...at first he was all concerned about Nora (having knocked her out :P), calls for a doctor, wakes her up with a little drink, takes care of her. Then she's fine and notices he's bleeding and gets all concerned about him and calls for a doctor, gets towels, starts taking care of him (Nick chugs out of the bottle on his own lol).
Then Nora comes back and still fussing over him says:

"Want a drink?" and...
Nick: What do you think?

And she goes off to get one...

LOL

I just love that little scene... And it's so telling. lol :)

Dear Omsoq: I love it, too....I love the spunk, the playfullness between Ms. Loy and Mr. Powell ....but my favourite scene is at the end, when Asta is banished to the top bunk....ahh, they don't make 'em like that today.....WOW...I sound like an old person! I guess I must be old, since I'm commenting on a 75 year old film.....

I love the end, too! :P But I have to say, my favorite of the endings from The Thin Man movies is in the second one, with the: "Why, Mrs. Charles..." :) :) So cute. :)

I think I like the line above because it's not really in a scene where they're directly being playful, it's kind of serious, but it's still hilarious!

And also - I don't think they make 'em like they used to, and I'm commenting on a 75 year old film...and I'm 20. So I don't think you sound old. ;)

I'm THRILLED that a 20-year-old enjoys Nick and Nora Charles! I'm sad to say I don't remember the "Why, Mrs. Charles" line at the end of the second one, but you've piqued my curiosity, so I'm gonna have to see that, too. I don't know in what context he said it....did she say something just slightly suggestive? I can just hear the tone of his voice when he says "Why, Mrs. Charles!" ... as if he's slightly taken aback....that's just a guess. Now, I've got to see that movie....Is that the one with Jimmy Stewart as the bad guy?

P.S.....I turned 50 this year!

Well if you don't remember, I kind of don't want to tell you. :) You should just watch it again and it will be better that way. SO good. Even though you'll probably remember before it happens.
I guess it's suggestive in a way. And he is slightly taken aback. ;)
Yeah, it's the one with Jimmy Stewart. Some people have said it was obvious he was the villain, but I was pretty surprised. He was just so adorable...and then a murderer. lol I like it, though. He wasn't so stereotyped, yet.

I actually just discovered Nick and Nora Charles recently, and don't know how I did without them for so long! :P I got into these kind of movies in 8th grade because I started watching musicals, and then spread out. I'd heard of the thin man a bunch, but it was just one of those I'd never seen. Then a bit ago I decided I wanted to read some 30s books (because I'm all about the 30s/40s in general...I love radio shows and things, even commercials :P), but was looking for non-crime novels. Then I just HAPPENED to see The Thin Man on the shelf at the library. The summary talked about a couple solving crimes between wisecracks and martinis and the first line said something about leaning over the counter in a speakeasy...and I was hooked. lol And it was all I hoped it would be. :)
It's only a psuedo-crime novel, anyway. :P Then when I finished I watched the movie. Which is SO GOOD, also.
I've been trying to find a similar book, but I don't think one exists... :)

All right, I'm getting a bit carried away, here... :)

Oh, I'm so glad you got carried away, Omsoq! Thanks for not giving it away....I had to get up this morning at 3 a.m. to send my husband off on a fishing trip, and I couldn't go back to sleep, so I watched "After the Thin Man"...now I know why Nick said "Why! Mrs. Charles!" . . . She was knitting a baby bootie!!!! ... What a joyous movie....well, thanks, Omsoq. I thoroughly enjoyed your comments, and hope we meet again.

Kind regards.....
