Here's what I don't get

I thought Tarzan was king of the jungle and could wrangle the animals with one call. Why were there always some 'rogue' animals who he had to fight to the death? Were the elephants the only ones on his wavelength? I seem to remember other animals responding to his call in other Tarzan movies I've seen in the past. Does anyone else remember that?

Apparently, Tarzan wasn't that much of a "king".
Only apes and elephants readily obeyed him.
Others had to be fought off.

Well, I guess it makes sense. He's the king in terms of men, not all animals. As the top man in the jungle, he dominates over everyone who challenges his realm. He merely protects the animals as if they were his subjects. The ones who get it do their part to work with him.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
