Complicated Villains

I was just watching this movie and came into the boards here to see if anyone else mentioned this but I don't see it mentioned anywhere. I have to give this movie credit. Not only does it have an amazing amount of flesh on display and a couple of actually tense action scenes but it doesn't portray our white villains (I hesitate to use that word) as one dimensional. Harry actually loves Jane and wouldn't do anything to harm her (he's also not AS cruel to the native workers this time around either) but the other guy who seemed to care about nothing other than his financial and sexual needs actual grows something approaching a conscience and goes out sacrificing his own life to save Jane from the lions. I didn't expect that from an action movie from this era. Anyone else agree?

For some modern viewers who think that older movies were simplistic & unsophisticated, the points you make are proof of just how wrong they are. There are complex motivations, genuinely adult situations, and moral grey areas to be seen & explored in older films.
