Gracie-Pro or Con?

Seems one of the reviewers here really didn't like Gracie in this film... Or any other time... Would be my guess....

What say you?

I (for one) think she was GREAT! She had the rare talent of walking the thin line of absurdity... And coming close... but not quite being obnoxious. Not an easy feat... IMHO....

Trust me,

The funniest performer in the film

I just posted about this on Gracie's board; she was always endearing in most of her films and certainly on her tv show but in this film her stupidity and carelessness endangers people's lives and causes a lot of trouble, it made you dislike her. I think she learned her lesson from this film (apparently other people had the same reaction) and after this her bird-brain characters were always sweet and pleasant and never an (admittedly unintentional) menace.

Burns & Allen are both annoying rather than funny here. George shouts what few lines he has and Gracie's non sequiturs are forced. Not their finest hour. WC Fields steals what little there is to steal here.

I think she is absolutely hilarious in this movie. As a matter of fact, I think this is her best performance.

I admit it would be terrible to travel with the character she played in this movie. But you would sure have some funny stories to tell after you had gotten over the trauma!

But I am aware that a lot of people have trouble with her role. She is truly awful and inconsiderate and self-absorbed. And, in my opinion, HILARIOUS!

I think George and Gracie realized that, for most people, Gracie was funnier in small doses and easier to take if she didn't almost kill people through her carelessness. (Although I also wonder if the Hays Code might have had something to do with making Gracie a little less fatal.)

Me, I think she's funny in stuff like International House and The Big Broadcast, but I still widh she had made a few more movies where she was a hilarious threat like she was in Six of a Kind.

George once revealed the secret of Gracie: he said she never played "dumb"; rather, she played it as if she were smarter than everyone else.

"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"

a little of her goes a long way.

B&A used some really clever gags for publicity... check out her
