75th anniversary DVD release

I think this would be time for Universal to release this film on DVD themselves, preferably under the Focus Features label with loads of special features.

Don't you think so?

Can I be honest here? I would sell my grandmother to the Khmer Rouge for anyone to put out a decent Region 1 transfer.

For reasons that are still unclear, (well, unclear to me, anyhow) Universal only saw fit to do a Region 2 release of The Scarlet Empress in 2008. With all the transfer work already done, why oh why can't they just do a Region 1 release of the same disc?

Like you, I'd prefer to see a disc with a lot of special features. However, I'd be more than happy to fork out for a disc that simply features a clear, uncropped print. It seems that my two choices are to either shell out for a Criterion Collection disc with a sub-par print, or invest in a Region-Free DVD player so I can hope to play the Universal Region 2 release.

I find it hard to believe that no one has seen fit to do another release for the North American market when the Criterion disc is about to turn a decade old very shortly (I believe it dates from May 2001). I don't know how this is going to sound, but if I knew that The Scarlet Empress were to come out on Blu-ray, I think it would be the Big Kick in the Pants I need to upgrade my existing player to a Blu-ray one.

Shell out for a region-free player. They're not that costly. Then you can buy lots of films from Amazon UK that haven't been released in the US for some reason. You can also avoid yet another crappy, overpriced Criterion disk.
