any von Sternberg work that compares?



I loved this film. Every moment is an audacious gesture and invention and I love the pre-Hays envelope-pushing.

I haven't seen any other von Sternberg works aside from this - does he employ any of these amazing filmic techniques in any of his other works? Any recommendations that can compare with or even surpass "Empress"?

Yeah, like ORD said you can find similar techniques in pretty much any of his films. My personal favorite is The Last Command.
