She was stunningly beautiful in her early scenes, in this...

...when she was supposed to be young and wide-eyed. I thought the loose curls were beautiful, and as she aged she settled down into the classic Marlene Dietrich look. But the early scenes? She looked scrumptious!

I'm watching the film right now and I agree with you. She looks positively divine in the early parts. Maybe it's because it's nice to see her depart from her classic look for once, but I have never seen her look more lovelier.

No blah, blah, blah!

I completely agree. She looked wide-eyed and innocent in the earlier scenes. In the later half of the movie, she wears heavy and dark makeup which I feel gives her a harder look. Still beautiful, just not as soft. I suppose heavy makeup represents her loss of youthful innocence.
