The music

Just saw this gem of a movie last night and thought it was fantastic. The performances were all marvelous, especially Edward Arnold. His breakdown when he realizes that his liquor is gone is downright harrowing.

Also it was a treat to see a "young" Leo G Carrol and Akim Tamiroff!

But the real treat was the fabulous music by Arthur Freed. All of the songs and performances were charming, including the amazing number performed by the trio in the nightclub. It was obvious they were pros and really playing their instruments. The fellow on guitar was especially great. I never knew that kind of guitar playing was even around in the early 30s.

Gene Austin played the ukele in the audience and discovered he was huge in music recording in the 2os and 30s. "My blue heaven" was his biggest hit. Dad to read he died alone in his trailer quite penniless when at one time he was the biggest in music. Very little written about him
