Great film! I've seen it several times and I've been impressed by it each time. Lots of great twists and the acting is excellent.

I just saw this for the first time and I agree it is a great film. Robert Montgomery is very suave as the crime busting diamond thief.

He was perfect in the leading role. 

Wonderfully entertaining mystery. I could watch these films all day long. Compare this to the garbage coming out of Hollywood these days that they call 'mysteries' - or do they even use that term any more? Robert Montgomery is an added bonus.

I'm really mostly interested in pre-1950 mysteries. I just can't relate to most of the modern mysteries/thrillers.

The classic mysteries/thrillers worked because it was still possible to do the isolated country house stories back then, to disguise a murdered body, etc. With modern technology, anything that the culprits do would probably just be recorded on someone's cell phone, or by security cameras, etc. And the idea of the isolated country house is out of the question. People aren't exactly isolated if they have their cell phones with them. In other words, what's the point of the modern mysteries?

I've heard complaints about his acting in other movies, but he was perfect in this film. No problem with his acting.

In my opinion Montgomery is an underrated top star. He's not so well known today because often he was typecast as a playboy, made many forgettable films through no fault of his own and retired from films in the late forties. His performance in the 1945 They Were Expendable as a PT boat lieutenant, which he was for real in the war, shows tremendous command and grit.
