TCM's website confirms they are showing this 1934 French version, running time 280 minutes.

Hmmmmmm...yes those cable guide people are so smart they gave a description for a MUCH shorter film (1:48) and show the time slot as 2:45 - 8:00 in the morning. Smart, those cable guide reviewers and editors. SMART, well not quite.
This is often done by the Cable Guiders. TCM got it right. They showed the other version not long ago (with Laughton and March). It was also very good, but this one is very different and even better.
Harry Baur, the lead (Jean Valjean), I hate to see was killed 9 years later by the Gestapo. Nasty people, those. Quite amazing he played such a role to be later killed by those dedicated to destroying humanity and human rights when this movie is dedicated to preserving those rights. Humans, irony, idiocy. All go together unfortunately. Victor Hugo would be upset.
"TCM got it right."
Not completely. They listed the year as 1934 (correct), but listed Charles Laughton and Fredric March as the actors and the running time as 108 minutes in their Now Playing Guide. They did however leave a huge time slot on their website schedule and in the Now Playing Guide. Even on my screen guide showed Les Miserables as airing from 11:45-5:00. I stayed up until 11:45 because I wanted to see what TCM was going to show. The 1935 version and then some filler movie? Nope! I was elated when this version came on instead. I have never seen it!
On TCM again tonight at 8P eastern (also showing several other versions of Les Miserables tonight too)
shareThe 1935 version with Charles Laughton was shown at 8P eastern. This version, the long, french one, will be shown at midnight EST. I've got my DVR set!

...oops, sorry, miscalculated time difference!
