What did you rate 'Fétiche' (1934)?

I don't know that I've ever seen stop-motion animation this marvelous. What a wonder to behold. The movie is full of life, with strange and beautifully-designed puppets always filling the frame, doing marvelous things. The film has so many excellent ideas, cleverly executed: the beheaded clown who returns near the end, the bits of newspaper that come to life. I loved the toys' escape from the moving, the depiction of toy hell.

Wonderful. I rated this film 9/10 for the database. What did you rate it?

How did you get to see this? DVD? YouTube?

I got to see this film when a private collector showed it to a small group of people in someone's backyard. (It was part of a collection of oddities that we were privileged to see.) I had no idea it ever existed.

It's presented after the film Vampyr (1932) on some DVDs (not the Criterion one). That's how I saw it, and I rated it a 10, for the sheer magic of it.

We're the heirs to the glimmering world.

I've never seen Vampyr. I placed a request for it at my library. (It's the Criterion version, so I won't be able to see Fétiche again.) Stop by the Vampyr board in a week or so. I'll be over there posting about it.

I found it on YouTube:

Part 1: youtube.com/watch?v=dOX8XTt5gf4
Part 2: youtube.com/watch?v=okJOQU1788o
Part 3: youtube.com/watch?v=YobhyB9QdV0
Part 4: youtube.com/watch?v=HLC0IhVhUhU

Not the ideal way to see it, but it's better than nothing.

Thank you for this information.
I have wanted to see this for a long time.
I was able to watch the entire film...finally.
It's bizarre and fanciful as well as a peek into the past.

Did you get to see Part 1 before it was taken down? I just checked all those links and Part 1 is missing.

EDIT: I think I had just put the wrong link up for part 1. I've fixed it. I hope you were able to find part 1, even though my link was incorrect.
