My wife and I agree...

Maniac remains the worst movie we've ever seen. And we've seen some doozies.

Like Ed Wood's films, countless low-budget zombie films, and plenty of big Hollywood productions that reek. Still, Maniac takes the cake.

Yeah, there is no doubt that "Maniac" is remarkably bad.

But it is its palpable horridness and its primitiveness that gives it a certain fascinating quality.

The crudity of technology in the 1930s comes across with such impact in this. Every tool, instrument, and product is unrefined and exaggerated in scope and embellishment. It really gives a feel for how primitive the tech culture was at that point in time.

The acting is wonderfully hammy and amateurish. The best scene for enjoying this aspect of the film's badness is the conversation between the two "handlers" at the morgue. Whew!

Errors in the cinematography are rife, and you get stuff like a severely underexposed (dark) outdoor sequence as Maxwell runs back from the funeral home. And the inexplicable dog and cat fights that seem to have been intended by the director.

Everything about this thing is unbelievably and charmingly bad. I loved it!

If you guys saw 'Titanic' (1997) you've seen worse.

Titanic was completely melodramatic and naive but I still say Maniac is worse.
