Seeing as his friend was being tried for murdering his assistant, surely Jim should have excused himself from the case? I'd have commuted Blackie's death sentence and pardoned him on my last day as Governor.
shareHonestly I couldn't wait for Blackie to get electrocuted. The movie fell over itself making him a loveable criminal, it went over the top and started getting on my nerves. The movie should have been called "Everybody Loves Blackie." There reached a point I wanted to say "Okay, if I love Blackie, will you quit it?!" Gable did a fine job. It's just to me the studio and script didn't have enough confidence that we'd love him as much as they wanted us to unless they hit us over the head, so they did. When he was finally dead I thought, THANK GOD. Now Eleanor and Jim can have a life, even if I don't get to see it (well I sort of did because the Thin Man happened). :)
