That from the mouth of Papa Rosen as he and the two newly-orphaned boys stare at the body of Rosen's son.

I heard that line and immediately imagined irate priests, ministers, and rabbis shooting out of their 1934 theater seats. Imagine telling the audience that you might as well chuck your religious affiliation when faced with the reality of death!

They probably weren't amused, but it gave me a chuckle.

Yes. Surrounded by all that death, the thoughts WOULD turn to religion, the soul, God, and the afterlife.
