Who sings for Kay?
Does anyone know who dubbed the singing for Kay Francis in Mandalay? The voice is beautiful, very rich and expressive, and reminds me both of Winifred (Wini) Shaw and Jane Froman, although very unlikely to be either.

I'm pretty sure it's Miss Francis. The timbres match and I really doubt anyone would go to the trouble of perfectly duplicating that speech impediment.
shareI agree with Ellis. It sounds very much like Miss Francis herself. The timbre of the singing voice is just like her speaking voice.
shareI have no inside info whatsoever, but I can't agree that it sounds like Kay singing. I'm inclined to think it was dubbed.
shareIf it's not her, it hasn't made it here http://www.barbaralea.com/Dubbers/dubberslist.html yet.
shareThe singer, who dubs Kay's voice in Mandalay, is named Virginia Verrill
shareCan you confirm that? She's not credited for it on IMDb. In fact, she's not credited for much on IMDb.
shareYou can compare the singing in the film with this short that features Virginia Verrill singing. The voices sound similar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0y1xdXr0So
shareIt sounds to me like Peg LaCentra.
shareI agree that it sounds dubbed.
shareThe first time she sings I thought it was dubbed. The second time she sings a portion of the song I'm fairly certain it is Kay. The main reason is her well known lisp is very audible when she sings the word tomorrow. I have built a reputation on my "ears," or my ability to distinguish sounds, I say it's Kay.
