The best Chair Fight scene ever.

The funniest thing I have seen for ages.

Really, the things that went through Hitchcock's mind sometimes...

Chair fight!

They can teach the NBA a thing or two about throwing chairs.

Ohhh, I thought the chair fight was frankly embarassing, any comedy was unintentional I am sure AND don't get me started on how bad the wrestle in the dentists chair was, could either of these guys spell the word 'act?' It was down right awful, words escape me.

Come ON. You have to think 1934, ok? Soundies were still new and the whole acting thing was still in its infancy. It was all about close-up faces showing one emotion or another.

Think about Lorre's final scene. Back then it was fresh, new, and powerful. I'm sure the audience stood up and applauded. 74 years later it's tame and we're laughing about it.

What will people think about movies 75 years from now? Will our best efforts seem childish because it doesn't make you feel like you're standing in the room with them as they die?

On topic, I did think the chair fight was a little tongue in cheek, though. If all you had at your disposal was a room full of chairs, what would you do?

I do have to admit that it did go on far too long, and the notion that they shouldn't shoot him because police outside would hear a gun shot and come running, while a gang of five guys slamming each other with a room full of chairs wouldn't, is quite bizarre. What was he thinking indeed.

I must see the remake, and I hope someone re-remakes this movie again. It could be done quite well today, if done by the right person.

Why do you use words denoting young age as meaning something inferior. You're really a wrong sort of person.

Well... *that's* kind of a childish response, don't you think? :-)

Only a very young person could say something so childish and think it's profound.

He who is tired of "Weird Al"... is tired of life.

reply

I was not trying to be profound, but fair. Is that all you can do? Make attacks on children?

BTW that chair fight scene was farcical in nature, and not to be taken seriously.

I'm sorry, but at what point in this thread has anyone made an attack on children? I fail to see your point entirely, and on top of this your tone is somewhat aloof and quite insulting. Please take your misguided sense of hurt pride elsewhere.

Yes very funny scene with the chairs, the church was totalled when the police went through at the end. The dialogue was funny too.

"Play the organ or they'll hear us outside"

in all the movies I've watched over the last 25 years,, I've never seen an all out chair fight,, no guns, knives swords,, just chairs,, and I own 2500 movies,, and watched over 3500 , so yea I was totally thrilled to see a chair fight.
are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

Replicated when Marlene Dietrich tears down the saloon in Destry Rides Again. That's where I first saw this scenario. Always fun and thrilling.
