what a great movie..and what a collection of crazy characters! I always thought it was so funny to see Shirley Temple surrounded by gangsters, lounge singers, gamblers and bookies! An absolute classic from the 1930's...I'm assuming this was before the Hayze code came into being, watering down movies to Ivory soap cleanliness.

I agree, this is one of the best of the Shirley Temple flicks. Not only does she get them wrapped around her little finger but they go out of their way to change themselves to protect her.
Even the hardcore thug comes around because he has great blood. It's a sweet film.
It's entirely possible that I am missing the point of your message.
I love this film, I feel as though her films at Paramount were a little bit better than her Fox Films.
