Very weird ending (spoilers)

Does anybody for one second buy that relationship between Bangles and Sorrowful? I know how it is in movies from the 1930's where 2 people share one kiss and that's enough for them to run off and get married. But here they only shared a hug and they're talking about spending their life together and raising a kid. The age difference was just a small part of it too.
The ending was just really bizarre. Instead of those two kissing and talking about a life together with the kid in the closing scene, the ending scene focused on the one guy who was so proud of the fact that he had "good, strong blood". Was the viewer really supposed to feel so good and happy inside over the fact that this idiot who wasn't even a major character had good blood? yeah it was briefly suggested that they would be together, but that seemed to play second fiddle to the celebration of this guy's good blood.
But this was truly a great movie inspite of that really strange ending.

The gangster who donated the blood was Bangle's boyfriend. He was the major impediment to her relationship with Sorrowful. He was a violent thug who might have been expected to kill them both for betraying him. So when he left in a good mood, that was supposed to make us all sigh a breath of relief. Now the couple could be together and the little girl would have a family.

I guess......I just didn't get that from the ending. The feeling I got was, the idiot that was responsible for her getting hurt, had great blood. Yippy let's all celebrate.

Well it was a bit of a quick fix for sure. Earlier in the film we find out that Sorrowful and Bangles have had feelings for each other for a very long time, but like the other poster said, the thug that hurt Shirley and didn't give a damn would have killed them if they were caught together.

The magic wand was that the thug was the only one that could save the child and that act melted the Grinch's heart and allowed it to grow three times larger. So happy thug with the really great life give blood saves the child, gives the jewelry back to Bangles, forgets about fixing the race my killing the horse, and doesn't care anymore that he lost thousands of dollars and other thugs will be out there looking for him because he told them the "fix" was in. Whew. Year, the movie's a gem, but I've noticed a lot of films from this era have access to magic wands to tie up all the loose ends with one improbable act or sentiment.

Sorry for the rant, but you're not wrong there.

It's entirely possible that I am missing the point of your message.

THanks, somebody understands my point. lol I guess the 1930's movies are guilty of that a lot. I guess that's why I usually prefer the 40's and 50's.

It's also a story by DAMON RUNYON...who practically had a PATENT on Sentimental Hoodlums.

You have Frank Capra's LADY FOR A DAY, with Warren William and Glenda Farrell
LITTLE MISS MARKER, with Shirley Temple and Adolphe Menjou
THE BIG STREET, with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda
THE LEMON DROP KID, with Bob Hope
POCKET FULL OF MIRACLES, with Bette Davis.

You either love Runyon or loathe him, but if he catches you at just the right moment, you're hooked for LIFE.

I do hope he won't upset Henry...
