Funniest movie ever made

IMO, this is the funniest movie ever, no contest. There's a lot of competition out there, and Bringing Up Baby, Grey Gardens, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and Love & Death come close, but I still think IAG is Number One. Nothing in any other film has made me laugh as hard as Fields trying in vain to sleep in his porch swing while being tormented by a curious baby, a traveling salesman, a stray coconut, and various other tortures. It's tragic that most people think of The Bank Dick or My Little Chickadee when you mention Fields; they should see It's a Gift to see the great man at his best.

I think movies like Some like it hot or Blazing Saddles can easily beat this film in terms of funniess. But this film is def. a comedy classic.

Definately in my top 5. Fields at his very finest.

"SOMEBODY GET THE DOOR FOR MR. MUCKLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I have never laughed harder in my life I don't think; at anything; than I did at that scene on the back of his house where he is trying to get some sleep. It was a perfect moment.

He is so utterly sympathetic. He has just gone outside for some quiet; some peace. Fields parsed this idea down in the same way Hitchcock parsed the shower scene with Janet Leigh. It is no less a masterpiece. We feel him getting progressively more tired. We are there on the porch with him.

Does anyone know...is it this movie of Field's where at the end he is sitting in an Orange Grove, drunk and a very proper woman comes by, looks down her nose at him and declares "You're Drunk!" to which Fields replies (under his breath)"Yes,...Yes I am but tomorrow I'll be sober and you'll have that puss for the rest of your life."

That's right, this film includes that line, among many other memorable, cleverly funny quotes.

Everyone should see this movie. My sides hurt after about fifteen minutes. The part where I had to actually pause it to get some air was the blind man in the shop - "Mr. Muckle? Darling? Mr. Muckle sweetheart, sit down..." *CRASH! POP!!* etc. ... Mrs. "Bisonay" is also priceless. She's such an old bat but you can still see her underlying affection for Fields even when she's ticking him off about whatever he's done wrong this time.

Choice line: After driving into a garden statue of the Venus de Milo which goes flying and lands in about seven pieces, Fields protests, "It ran right out in front of me!"

One of the all time over-the-top hilarious classics, up there with A Night at the Opera, Some Like It Hot, The Producers, Little Murders, and The Jerk.

Be careful watching this one while eating or drinking.

I am in a blissful state, so don't bug me.

I agree! Whenever anyone asks what I think the funniest movie is, it's this one. Oddly enough, it was the first Fields movie I ever saw. I've liked a lot of his others, but this is still the best.

While I think THE BANK DICK is a very good movie, I kind of think that's the closest Fields ever got to "high art". It's weel made, but GIFT is funnier.

As for MY LITTLE CHICKADEE, I find that unwatchable, but then, I was never a fan of Mae West.

Any list of "The funniest films ever" has got to include IT'S A GIFT.

Still great after all these years.

The sign on Bissonette's shop that reads:

This film made me laugh my head off, as did (even more so) "Sons of the Desert" (1933) and "Way out West" (1937). Wonderful films.
