Did George Burns 'borrow' Robert Woolsey's shtick?

Just finished watching this on TCM and can't help but see the parallels to the George Burns routine (round black-framed glasses and cigar shtick.) Did Burns ever give credit where credit is definitely due?

I also thought there was a parallel with the cigar. The glasses however were not used by Burns until very late in his life, around the 1970s.
