Final event in film based on a true incident


When Pat O'Brien gets caught holding onto the landing rope when the airship is caught in an updraft, that's based on a true incident. The Navy Zeppelin Akron was attempting a landing on May 11, 1932 at San Diego. A combination of events caused the airship to bob back up in the sky with three ground crew men clinging to the ropes. Two fell off and were killed, one was reeled up to safety. The entire incident was filmed by newsreel cameras and I've seen it, it's not pleasant to watch.
