Those Specs Wouldn't Fool Anyone

This was a fun movie. We are willing to suspend disbelief on a lot, but those big round specs and the pulled-back hair wouldn't fool anyone into thinking that Claudette Colbert was a drab, unattractive, little mouse. When you've got as much of IT as she had, it's not that easy to hide!

I liked how she took them off and, well she never did need those silly things.

True but Claudette is such a great actress you do believe her as a mousey woman in those scenes and too that image and personality is usually due though to how these women were raised and their personal inhibitions rather than how they look. I was born in the South and I knew several women who were raised ultra-conservatively (no makeup, "sensible" clothes, standard glasses, etc.) and as a result they have that repressed personality like Claudette's character. This still happens even in the 21st century.

I would watch her in anything. Great actress.

I have never seen the movie, but you are right. Some women and men too are still raised like that.
