Fun and Fast!

Wow!

Sometimes it was hard to keep up to speed with this story, but it was a fun "who-done-it"! :)

I figured out two or three clues before they were revealed, (guess I've watched too many detective stories), but spent most of the time saying, "What just happened there!?" :)

Watch it, it was fun.
Loved the women's clothes *blissful sigh*...wish we dressed like that still...
Loved seeing San Francisco of old too...

Be well...

Just watched this on DVD - the Warner Archive Collection edition, out fairly recently.

Fun movie! Kind of odd that Bette got bumped off somewhat early and THEN the story became more about the Margaret Lindsay character. Poor Margaret Lindsay, always in the shadow of Bette...

Loved those Packards! (Bette's car - I think Bette was driving a Packard 12!!, the old man's limo and Margaret's car!)

Yes! The women looked stunning in all their scenes! I always think of Margaret Lindsay as something of a dowdy killjoy (like her Amy in Jezebel) but here she looked ravishing in every scene!!

This was released the year Hays Code kicked in, but there's still sex in the air when a man and a woman share a scene. Also this movie doesn't feel as old as the 40s-60s films - it even could've been made in early 80s, except shot on an old camera and filmstock, with basically the same results. Pretty impressive. I suppose it's so short because Davis was the star, so they had to devote a bigger chunk of screentime to her and when she's not there, everything gets tied up really fast.
