beautiful clothes, interesting bathing costumes

I especially liked what the women wore at the pool, short skirts and capes. Very flattering. It's too bad women can't get that sort of thing now. Most of the men were dressed for high diving with outfits that would most definitely stay on, more like what wrestlers might wear today. No Esther Williams in the women's ranks, though. The rest of the clothes were of course first rate because this was a house party of people who were fashionable and apparently had money to burn. I'm guessing the audience of the Depression would have sighed with envy wishing they could afford even ONE of the things they saw on the screen but having to settle for cheap copies, if that. These movies undoubtedly made even shopgirls and errand boys raise their expectations and work harder to make themselves and their surroundings seem more sophisticated on very little.
